Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific example of acanthite from this seldom referenced Colorado locale!!! This specimen hosts a broad face studded
with numerous highly complex crystals of acanthite in association with a few scattered crystals of other related species!!!
The broad face of the specimen appears to be a "slickenside" (a smoothly polished surface caused by the natural friction between
two opposing rocks) comprised of unknown species (some areas have an almost waxy look to them, while others appear slightly metallic)!!!
The acanthite crystals are present as complex, cubo-octahedral crystals and highly complex groups of intergrown crystals!!!
Upon close inspection it appears there are a couple small crystals of pyrargyrite and polybasite in association as well as some
tiny calcite crystals!!! This specimen retains an affixed label noting the locality on the reverse!!! Unique Colorado material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
