Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent example of acanthite from this rare, old time Canadian locality!!! This specimen hosts numerous, significant crystals of
acanthite scattered across its broad face!!! The acanthite crystals exhibit complex, modified cubic forms and a number of them are in
close association with complex, dendritic crystals (silver?)!!! There are numerous calcite crystals scattered across the face of the specimen as well!!! Upon close inspection these
calcite crytals are of superb quality with razor-sharp faces, glassy luster, and marked clarity!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope one
can find what appear to be a couple small bladed crystals of possible polybasite as well!!! There is some fine, microcrystalline chalcopyrite present as well!!! The dendritic
crystals are actually quite curiously formed when closeley examined and almost appear to be complex networks of an unidentified species or some possible
pseudomorphism!!! Fine examples of crystalline acanthite are uncommon from Canada - this is a fantastic example of the species from a seldom referenced, historic
locality!!! This specimen is in fantastic condition and there is a LOT more going on than the pictures show!!! This specimen is from the A.E. Seaman
Mineral Museum and retains its original old label as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JUNE 16th!!!
