Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific, old time example of quartz and agate casts after anhydrite from Prospect Park!!! This specimen consists of a complex group of quartz crystal and
agate casts after anhydrite crystals!!! The casts have concentric, layered coatings of agate that exhibit a striking range
of reds, pinks, whites, and all shades in between!!! On top of the agate layer is a highly unusual and complex showing of quartz crytsals!!! The
quartz crystals are present as extremely compressed, stratified layers of colorless crystals less than 1mm thick!!! At first glance I mistook them
for another species, however they are undoubtedly quartz crystals - and very unusual ones at that!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This is old time material from the collection of Albert Peppis!!! This specimen retains
its original Peppis collection label as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Albert
Peppis was born July 5th, 1899 and died July 12th, 1989 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida,
where his collection had layed dormant for nearly 20 years until our acquisition of
the collection!!! Albert was an avid mineral collector and prolific field collector
throughout the northeastern United States!!! Peppis collected most prolifically between
the late 1920's throughout the 1960's although he coninued to acquire specimens in his
later years as well!!! Albert was both a member of the Franklin Ogdensburg Mineralogical
Society and the New York City Mineralogical Society!!! Peppis was a close friend of Alvin
and Raymond Schortmann and collected extensively with them at the Ruggles Mine in New
Hampshire during the trips that began their mineral dealing careers!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
