Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent and unusual example of agate replacing fossil snails from Colorado!!! This specimen hosts numerous sharply defined snail
fossils (Viviparus reesidei) that have been completely replaced by quartz var. agate, prominently perched on sandstone matrix!!! The agate has a gorgeous
red color and shows a marked translucence as well!!! The snails range in size to over 1.3cm and show incredible detail!!! Upon
close inspection with a loupe or scope one can even see the fine ridges in the snail's shell!!! In addition to the numerous
larger specimens, there are numerous tiny agate snails present upon close inspection as well!!!
There are also some partial snail shells that allow one to see some concentric banding in one example and
another that shows a small, quartz crystal-lined cavity!!! This is a killer example of this rare and unusual occurence!!! Very showy
in person!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen
PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to
come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this specimen was originally
from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 10th!!!
