Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific example of this rare and sought after gem species from Zimbabwe!!! This specimen hosts several complex crystals of
alexandrite on a matrix of more, massive
alexandrite!!! The crystals have marked translucence with several small areas showing marked clarity!!!
This specimen has
INTENSE EMERALD GREEN COLOR in sunlight and full-spectrum
fluorescent lighting!!!
I must say however that this specimen does not show up this color purple in person (except for two small areas, oddly)!! For some reason the digital camera shows
the specimen as being bright purple when, to the
human eye, it is a more grayish color with an odd purplish-greenish hue!!! However, the sunlight/emerald green color is choice and
absolutely incredible in person!!! Under incandescent lighting the specimen has a curious purplish-bluish green-gray color!!! The pictures
taken of this specimen
were taken with full spectrum/sunlight (emerald green) and with incandescent lighting (purple)!!! With all that said, there are two small areas of this specimen that
show up a TRUE purple under incandescent lighting and intense emerald green in sunlight - those two areas are the outer edge of the main crystal and a small gemmy crystal on the reverse (curiously, these areas still show up purple to the camera even with full spectrum lighting)!!!
Bottom line - this specimen has intense emerald green color and marked color change, with two small areas showing classic purple-to-emerald color change!!!
Simply a fantastic example of this sought after gem species!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
