Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific example of alexandrite from Brazil!!! This specimen consists of a characteristically twinned crystal of
alexandrite prominently perched on a small amount of matrix!!! The crystal exhibits classic cyclic twinning with
sharply defined features and oriented striations!!! As is common with these Brazillian alexandrite specimens, the
color is very dark - in person, the crystal shows a very dark green color in sunlight and
full spectrum fluorescent while the greenish hues change to a very dark purplish under incandescent lighting!!! It is difficult
to capture the color change with the digitial camera, as the camera always "sees" the alexandrite as purple (although it does NOT
appear this way to the human eye)!!! In person, the specimen is very dark in color while one can see some minor translucence on the
edges of the crystals with some backlighting (the green color is the more dominant and significant color phase by far, although it
does not show up this way in the pictures)!!! The most impressive feature of this specimen is the crystal's cyclic twinning
however!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 9th!!!
