Description/Interesting Notes: A magnificent example of almandine garnet from Alaska!!! This specimen hosts a striking single crystal of almandine garnet prominently perched on a schist matrix!!! The almandine crystal measures over 1.6cm and is complete and pristine all around!!! The crystal faces are sharp and glassy!!! Most of the almandine crystals from this locality are nearly opaque and almost black in color - however this specimen exhibits significant flashes visible even in low lighting!!! With significant backlighting one can see that this crystal is also quite gemmy and has deep cherry red color!!! This is a magnificent Wrangell Island almandine garnet indeed!!!
