An incredible, old time example of gem amethyst from Arizona!!! This specimen consists of a complex single crystal of
gem amethyst that exhibits a rare c-face termination!!! This crystal exhibits some complexly etched
terminal faces and a prominent c-face at the termination!!! The unusual, somewhat flattened and etched appearance of the
very tip of the termination is actually a highly complex c-face (this is NOT damage)!!! The terminal faces exhibit some complex patterns upon
close inspection as well!!! In addition to this rare habit, the crystal exhibits stunning, natural deep purple color and GEM clarity!!!
When viewed from the underside, one can see that this crystal could cut some very significant gemstones (the purple color is truly stunning in person)!!!
Not only is this a great specimen, it is valuable gem rough as well!!!
This specimen originally came from the famed George Kunz (Kunzite, vice president of
Tiffany's, etc.) before it went to Irenee du Pont, Sr. and then to the University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum (history is evidenced by the
314-prefix of the antique catalogue number, these were all the specimens DuPont acquired from Kunz)!!!
A gorgeous and unique old time Amethyst gem from Arizona!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
