A gorgeous example of amethyst from Silkaatsneck!!! These specimens are sometimes known as "cactus quartz" however, the great majority of similar
specimens seen on the market are from Pretoria and are of vastly inferior color and quality!!! This specimen is from the much lesser
known locality of Silkaatsneck and has exceptional color and aesthetics by comparison!!! This specimen is from the collection of Wolfgang Pohl and
retains his original label!!! The pics hardly do this beauty justice - and there is no comparison to any of the commonly available "cactus quartz" out there!!!
Wolfgang Pohl worked in the mining industry in Namibia in the 70s and 80s and was a prolific
collector and dealer during and after this time!!! He would make trips back and forth to
his native Germany trading specimens he had acquired in Africa for worldwide specimens!!!
Pohl was rather meticulous with his labeling and record keeping with most of the specimens
in the collection having catalogue numbers, label with info on locale, source/dealer info,
acquisition date, and any other relevant notes!!! However, the most interesting feature is
that most of the labels also had a small sketch of the specimen on the reverse side as
well!!!
