A rare and fantastic, old time example of RAINBOW iridescent andradite garnet from Mexico!!! While the iridescent
garnets from Japan have made some headlines in recent years, these old time iridescent garnets from Mexico were among
the first examples of such material - they are just so uncommon that few people were ever aware of them!!! This specimen
consists of a large, complex crystal of rare rainbow iridescent andradite garnet!!!
The crystal has a core of dark reddish brown color with a thick
outer layer of golden amber!!! The crystals have marked clarity and exhibit a most incredible, and utterly unique, multi-color iridescence!!!
The crystal has highly complex stepped faces that, in addition to their iridescent properties, exhibit
an almost moontone-like schiller in person due to their complexly stepped features!!!
The iridescence is present as sharply angular bands of surprising brightness distributed throughout the crystals!!! I must stress
that the pictures do not even come close to doing this dynamic phenomenon justice - in person the iridescence is much more
pronounced and distributed throughout the crystals!!! In person the crystals look like they have electric neon displays
within them!!! The crystal's main face seems to show a consistent bright green iridescence just below the surface!!!
This material is rare and highly sought after - this specimen is worth a considerable sum in gem rough
alone (the cut stones from this material are truly unbelievable!)!!! Old material!!!
The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
