Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare and fantastic, old time example of RAINBOW iridescent andradite garnet from Mexico!!! While the iridescent
garnets from Japan have made some headlines in recent years, these old time iridescent garnets from Mexico were
among the first examples of such material - they are just so uncommon that few people were ever aware of them!!!
This specimen consists of a complex single crystal of rainbow andradite garnet!!! The crystal has a curiously elongated habit with highly complex
faces and modifications!!! Although it was difficult to capture in the pics - the specimen displays quite strikingly from numerous angles!!!
The crystal has a dark reddish brown
color with a thick outer layer of golden amber!!! The crystal has marked clarity and glassy luster!!! Most notably however, this
crystal exhibits a most incredible,
and utterly unique, iridescence!!! The iridescence is present as sharply defined, rainbow colored bands of surprising brightness
distributed throughout the crystal!!! I must stress that the pictures do not even come close to doing this dynamic
phenomenon justice - in person the iridescence is much more pronounced and distributed throughout the crystal!!!
In person the crystals look like they have electric neon displays within them!!! This material is rare and highly
sought after - this specimen is worth a considerable sum in gem rough alone!!! This specimen came out of an old
collection an its original location was noted as "Cárdenas, Chihuahua, Mexico" however, after some research it
has been determined that this specimen is almost certainly from the Alamos area in Sonora!!! The pics don't
even come close to doing this incredible specimen justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 28th!!!
