Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific, old time, Civil War-era example of chromian antigorite from Pennsylvania!!! This material is often incorrectly labelled as
kammererite and given its color and form, it is certainly understandable!!! This specimen consists of a large, plate-like vein of
chromian antigorite in association with a small amount of matrix!!! This is a magnificent and impressive old time example indeed!!!
This specimen is comprised of a dense network of parallel lathes of chromian antigorite that exhibit handsome purple color!!! The
chromian antigorite has clarity that ranges from opaque to translucent in areas!!!
While the specimen exhibits a violet purple color in the pics, the specimen has a slightly lighter more magenta-purple
color in person!!! Rare old time material!!! It is certainly a show of this specimen's significance that it has been
kept in collectors' hands for well over 150 years!!! This specimen retains an old label from R.F. Bertolet dating to c. 1860!!! This specimen
was also in the collection of noted Pennsylvania collector and publisher of Matrix magazine, Jay Lininger and in the personal collection of Fred Parker (specimen
retains Parker's personal collection label as well)!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MARCH 15th!!!
