An absolutely incredible example of atacamite from Nevada!!! When I first saw this specimen I thought I was looking at one of the
classic Australian atacamite - then I was stunned to see that this beauty was from Nevada!!! This specimen is from a small find of
particularly fine atacamite specimens made by W. F. Foshag (1894-1956) and consists of a fine spray of emerald green, prismatic atacamite crystals perched
on a matrix of intergrown atacamite crystals!!! The crystals have exceptional color with glassy luster and sharply
defined features!!! The crystals have complex surface features and sharp, lustrous terminations!!!
This specimen retains old labels from the collections of
Joe Cilen and Edwin Terres the latter of which provides extensive detail on its history - noting that it was
originally collected by W.F. Foshag who donated it to the U.S. National Museum (aka Smithsonian), who sent it to Princeton University for identification
and study - and ultimately it wound up in the Terres collection (there is mention of a "Mineathre Collection" on the label as well)!!!
Incredible material indeed!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
