Description/Interesting Notes:
This is an absolutely EXTRAORDINARY example of azurite from Romania!!! This specimen hosts a stunning display of razor-sharp, pristine, lustrous,
blocky crystals of lively royal blue azurite!!! This specimen would be a mangificent azurite from any locality - however this remarkable specimen is
from a rare, classic old time locality - Moldawa, Banat Mountains, Romania (not to be confused with the more well-known Moldavia in Czech Republic)!!!
This specimen was originally collected in 1861 - at that time this locality was actually in Hungary!!! This specimen retains an old label from Albanese along with
detailed notes regarding the specimen's history!!! This specimen orginally came from the collection
of Francis G. Himpler, of Hoboken, New Jersey who was born in Trier, Germany in 1833!!! Himpler collected this specimen himself in 1861!!!
After Himpler died in 1916, the collection was dispersed and from there it made its way, eventually, to John Albanese who, in turn, passed the
specimen along to A.J. Beres!!! Beres himself was born in Hungary and had amassed a significant collection of fine minerals from Hungary
and the surrounding areas (that once belonged to Hungary)!!! This specimen was no doubt one of Beres most treasured specimens (our four-digit acquisition price no doubt reflected this!)!!!
This specimen is absolutely stunning in person - the color is much more intense and lively than the pictures show, the crystals are razor-sharp, lustrous, and pristine!!!
There is some minor malachite in association and a few tiny unidintified white translucent crystals perched on some of the azurite crystals!!! This is
truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" specimen!!! Guaranteed to knock your socks off!!! You don't want to miss out on this rare and valuable historic beauty!!!
The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
