Description/Interesting Notes:
This specimen consists of a very unusual pseudomorph from this unique New Mexico locality!!! This locality is known for its unique native copper after
azurite pseudomorphs,
however this specimen is unlike any other I have seen!!! Some time ago we
acquired a small group of specimens from this locality in an old collection - these specimens had been self collected by
the collector sometime in the forties!!! What was unique however was that there were examples of native copper that had begun to alter to malachite (not just malachite coatings) and some that
appeared to be further silicified as well!!! Basically, these were malachite after copper after azurite pseudomorph!!! You can see
areas that hosted what looked like dendritic copper replaced by malachite and the core of this specimen appears to be mixture of copper and silica/quartz and it also
appears there may be microcrystalline quartz on the outside of the malachite in areas!!! Bottom line - there is some really unusual multiple
pseudomorphism going on here!!! Aside from all this - this is one handsome looking specimen - bright green, sharp, and unique!!! The
pics hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
