Bahianite

Paramirim, Bahia, Brazil

1.14cm x .72cm x .4cm

Ex. J. Hoppner Collection No. 2255

Description/Interesting Notes:

A rare example of bahianite from the type locality in Brazil!!! This specimen consists of a characteristic alluvial pebble of bahianite!!! This rare species is surprisingly hard - in fact it is one of the hardest minerals known with the exception of diamond!!! At a hardness of nine, it is the same hardness as corundum!!! This specimen is from the collection of J. Hoppner and retains its original label as well!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! **We have just returned from the annual Gem & Mineral Show in Tucson, Arizona!!! Be sure to stay tuned as we will be listing our exciting acquisitions throughout the next coming weeks!!!***
