A rare example of bahianite from the type locality in Brazil!!! This is a pair of similar specimens, consisting of
characteristic alluvial pebbles of bahianite!!! This rare species is surprisingly hard - in fact it is one of the hardest minerals known with the exception of
diamond!!! At a hardness of nine, it is the same hardness as corundum!!! However, what is even more remarkable is the fact
that these two specimens show minute areas of CRYSTALLINE bahianite!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can
see minute crystals of bahianite among the recesses of these alluvial specimens!!! This pair of specimens retain an old musuem label and
corresponding glass vial with catalogue number!!! Rare material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
