Marienberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany

8.76cm x 7.6cm x 4cm

Ex. Freiberg Mining Academy (1851-1888)

Ex. John H. Caswell Collection (1846-1909)

Ex. Paul Lazar Collection No. 1445

Description/Interesting Notes:

A classic, old time example of barite from Germany!!! Old barites from Marienberg are not commonly seen on the market!!! This specimen consists of a cluster of blocky, intergrown crystals with complex and unusual features!!! The crystals have curious raised edges, modified corners, and other odd and complex features upon close examination!!! The crystals have marked translucence and luster that ranges from matte to glassy!!! This specimen retains several old labels dating to the mid to late 1800's!!! The old Frieberg label shows the pen of Rudolph Wappler who was the director of the academy from 1851-1888!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY DECEMBER 2nd!!!
