Bixbyite N'Chwaning I Mine, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa 6.65cm x 3.8cm x 3.76cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A rare and fantastic example of bixbyite from South Africa!!! This specimen is loaded with sharply cubic, lustrous, jet-black crystals of bixbyite on a matrix of massive manganite!!! The rich showing of sharp, lustrous crystals is quite striking in person - the crystals are much more prominent and showy than the pictures convey!!! The crystals have significant size as well, ranging up to over 1.6cm!!! Many of the crystals show complex striations on their faces as well!!! There are some small whitish crystals of an unidentified species (possibly barite) present as well as some unidentifed black tabular crystals as well!!! Simply a fantastic example of the species from South Africa!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
