Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, old time example of classic "Blue John" fluorite from England!!! This specimen consists of a thick, showy
mass of intergrown columnar fluorite crystals that exhibit the classic color banding that this prized fluorite
varietal is so famous for!!! "Blue John" fluorite was used for a wide variety of ornamental purposes however the deposits
that produced this highly desireable material have long since been exhausted!!! Consequently, true "Blue John" fluorite is
rarely seen today, except in fine antiques!!! This specimen exhibits classic purple and white color banding with
marked translucence and varying hues!!! What makes this specimen even more impressive is that the outer surface is
crystalline - with the columnar crystals having complex tetrahexahedral faces and some cubic crystals scattered about as well!!!
The tetrahexahedral crystal faces make for an almost spikey apperance at certain angles!!! Simply a
magnificent example of this old and highly sought after material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of
Tony Nikischer and retains its original personal collection label as well!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen
PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming
days and weeks!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY FEBRUARY 28th!!!
