Description/Interesting Notes:
An incredible LOT of rare gold telluride calaverite crystals from this historic Colorado locale!!!
This is an INCREDIBLE offering - you just DO NOT see opportunities like this!!! This is an incredible, old time LOT of
calaverite CRYSTALS!!! This is a very valuable lot just for its gold content alone!!! This group is almost entirely comprised of calaverite crystals in addition to some masses of calaverite,
tiny mini-clusters on matrix, and some native gold!!! The individual crystals of
calaverite measure up to over 6mm, the native gold measures to 5mm, and the masses of calaverite measure to 1cm!!!
There are many very fine, sharp, brilliantly metallic crystals in this group (I also found some melonite and native gold pseudomorphs after
calaverite as well)!!! This is old, museum material that was likely collected a century or more ago!!! The majority of
gold at Cripple Creek was found as telluride ore - namely calaverite!!! The miners would then "roast" the ore to drive off the
tellurium, leaving the native gold behind!!! This lot is VERY rich in gold (all one needs to do is heat this material and you'd
wind up with a nice chunk of native gold - just like the miner's used to)!!! Although its gold content is significant, these
crystals are worth way more as specimens!!! In fact, I was told I was CRAZY to sell this as a lot because there is a small fortune
to be made if I sell off the specimens individually!!! However, I feel it is most impressive as a group, because you'd never see
such a thing outside of an old museum!!! There is a lot of incredible material in here!!! Don't miss out on this
rare and VALUABLE opportunity!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 2nd
