Description/Interesting Notes: A rare, old time example of calcite from this seldom referenced locality - St. Louis!!! These unique, and seldom seen calcite specimens date to the late 1800's!!! This specimen exhibits complex, characteristic calcite crystals that have a unique, somewhat iridescent, amber colored outer layer (presumably caused by a bituminous coating) followed by a second generation of similarly formed, yet colorless calcite crystals!!! This specimen retains an old dealer label with Yale University notation!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Rare old time material!!!
