Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of this amazing combination from this famed district!!! This specimen hosts a striking single crystal of calcite that
has been partially replaced by gympsum and melanterite, aesthetically perched on a showy matrix of sphalerite and chalcopyrite!!! These old
pseudomorphic combos are quite scarce indeed!!! We sold one other such example
years ago and after we parted with it, it was subsequently illustrated and published (and this current specimen is much better in my opinion!)!!!
This specimen is in fantastic condition and, in person, the chalcopyrite and sphalerite are very showy - with
flashes of deep red color in the sphalerite and sharp, brilliant repeating triangular forms in the chalcopyrite crystals!!! Upon close inspection
one can see the individual crystals of gypsum and tiny crystals of melanterite (which are present both within and on the gypsum)!!! This
specimen is absolutely amazing in person!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!! A killer old time rarity!!! This specimen is
from the A.J. Beres collection!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
