Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely incredible example of cobaltoan calcite from this classic locale!!! This most unusual specimen consists of a
large, bulbous group of botryoidal cobaltoan calcite crystals prominently perched on a characteristic matrix comprised of
magnetite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite along with some chlorite and possible byssolite!!! The cobaltoan calcite has a
peculiar reddish color and marked translucence throughout!!! The large botryoidal crystal has been cut and polished in one
area in order to show off its unusual color and glowing translucence!!! Upon close inspection one can see numerous crystals of
pyrite and chalcopyrite scattered about the matrix and partially included within the cobaltoan calcite as well!!! There
are also small black magnetite crystals embedded in the matrix along with chlorite and some possible compressed byssolite as well!!!
This is old time
material and there are some old, faint catalogue numbers on the specimen from an unattributed source as well!!!
Very showy and unique in person - WAY Better than the pics show!!!
Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired
the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting
minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this specimen was
originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 3rd!!!
