An absolutely magnificent example of caledonite & linarite from California!!! This specimen is from the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences and retains its original handwritten Museum label!!!
It was donated to the museum from the Drown Collection, who had in turn received had it from the legendary mineralogist Frederick Genth!!! This specimen retains its original handwritten Down
Collection label with Genth notation as well!!! The specimen was labelled as coming from Arizona, but subsequent research has shown conclusively that it is actually
from California - an understandable mistaken given the state of the Southwest United States in the 1800's I suppose!!! This specimen is indeed a
museum worthy rarity for sure!!! This specimen hosts a rich coverage of bright blue caledonite crystals and intense royal blue linarite to several millimeters in association with
tiny complex cerussite and leadhillite crystals!!! There are also sharp emerald green crystals of brochantite present and several masses of bright canary yellow
perite!!! In addition to these species listed, there are SEVERAL other rare and unidentified species present and visible with a loupe or stereoscope!!! This specimen is simply OUTRAGEOUS in person!!! The
intense royal blue of the linarite, paired with the unique and characteristic vibrant blue of the caledonite, and accents of green and bright yellow make this specimen an aesthetic marvel
in person!!! A significant and historic rarity - with stunning aesthetics and eye-appeal as well!!! The pics don't even come close to doing this rare beauty justice!!!
