Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent old time example of this highly prized pseudomorph from Cornwall!!! These old cassiterite after
orthoclase pseudomorphs came from a small, one time find in Wheal Coates around 1828 and have been highly sought after by
collectors ever since!!! These specimens are quite difficult to come by today and we have acquired every one we have ever
come across!!! This specimen consists of a sharply
twinned orthoclase crystal that has been completely replaced by cassiterite!!! The specimen is complete and undamaged with
sharply defined faces and features!!! The specimen consists of a sharply twinned, doubly terminated crystal!!! In person
the sharpness and detail are much more significant then they appear in the pics!!! Upon close inspection one can see some
eye-visible crystals of cassiterite embedded within the crystals' surface!!! The broad faces show some complex skeletal features
that - upon close inspection - have some complexly crystalline features and host numerous tiny, crystals of
cassiterite!!! As one would expect, this specimen has considerable heft for its size as well!!! These
rare specimens are considered to be "Holy Grail" pieces among Cornwall and pseudomorph collectors!!! This
specimen retains an old label from Columbia University as well!!! Simply a magnificent example of this rare and
highly sought after classic!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
