Chalcocite pseudomorph after Pyrite Burra Copper Mine, South Australia, Australia 3.6cm x 3.4cm x 2.6cm Ex. Tony Nikischer Collection

Description/Interesting Notes: A unique and unusual old time pseuodmorph from this historic locale!!! Let me start off by saying that this is a very impressive specimen and way better than the pics show!!! For starters, this specimen is ACTUALLY altered to chalcocite!!! Most "chalcocite after pyrite" specimens I have seen are just thin coatings of chalcocite on pyrite crystals!!! Although you can see some tiny areas of pyrite still remaining upon close examination with a loupe, this specimen shows actual and significant replacement!!! This specimen consists of a single, complex pyrite crystal with numerous additional, intergrown pyrite crystals - the entirety of which has been replaced by gun-metal gray chalcocite!!! This is OLD material from this historic Australian copper locality!!! Way, WAY better in person!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer and retains its original personal collection label!!!
