Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of chlorargyrite with native gold from this historic Mexican locale!!! This specimen hosts a very
rich showing of chlorargyrite with native gold that is distributed throughout the entire specimen!!! The quartz matrix is very
brecciated and richly integrated with chlorargyrite (with some likely bromargyrite) throughout!!! Upon close inspection one
can see tiny areas of native gold included within and on the chlorargyrite!!! There is much more gold
present than the pics show - with a loupe or a scope one can see there are submillimeter grains of native gold scattered throughout
the rich network of chlorargyrite crystals!!! The chlorargyrite ranges in color from translucent green to opaque dark gray!!!
This is an amazing, old time specimen that likely dates to the late 19th century!!! Examples of native gold, as well as chlorargyrite are
very rare from this historic locality!!! (I think it is also interesting to note that material of a very similar nature also
occurs from Tombstone, Arizona - where examples of native gold and chlorargyrite represented a significant portion of the richest ore!!!)
This specimen is from the University of Delaware Mineral Museum and
retains an old label from the collection of H.C. Van Tassel and affixed museum catalogue number!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 12th!!!
