Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely incredible - HUGE old time example of bromian chlorargyrite from Broken Hill!!! This specimen weighs a hefty 1.8 Kg (nearly 4 lbs.) and
is comprised mainly of bromian chlorargyrite!!! I must start off by saying that this important old time rarity is way, WAY better in person!!! Upon close inspection, one
can see that the bromian chlorargyrite is present both as subhedral masses, slightly botryoidal forms, and small yet well formed crystals!!! The
crystalline portions of bromian chlorargyrite are highly complex but numerous and easily discernable with a loupe or scope!!! Most of the material that is
not chlorargyite is actually smithsonite, present as tiny whitish rice-grain shaped crystals!!! The dark red/orange/brown areas are actually mostly
microcrystals of spessartine garnet - under close inspection one can see the submillimeter crystals in abundance!!! I must stress that this is a KILLER
old time specimen - a very significant, and valuable, Broken Hill old timer indeed!!! This specimen retains its historic museum label and corresponding catalogue number from the
A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY DECEMBER 16th!!!
