Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, old time example of chondrodite and spinel from this historic locale!!! This
specimen hosts numerous large chondrodite crystals in association with darkly colored spinel crystals in a
calcite marble matrix!!! There is also a lone crystal of zircon and some crystals of graphite present as well!!
Interestingly, it appears that there are numerous instances where there are partial pseudomorphs of spinel after
chondrodite (or chondrodite after spinel)!!! The chondrodite crystals range in size to over 3cm and there are
sharp octahedrons of spinel to 1cm!!! The spinel exhibits a dark purplish color in some areas as well!!!
Some of the chondrodite crystals are very well formed with sharp faces and marked luster!!!
Simply an incredible example of the species from this classic locale!!! Old time material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the
collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and
there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer
collection this specimen was originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
