Cinnabar with Opal Lake Co., California 11.2cm x 9.6cm x 4.26cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic, old time example of cinnabar and opal from California!!! This specimen consists of a large matrix, primarily composed of opal, that hosts a rich showing of lively red cinnabar crystals!!! The cinnabar crystals range in size to a couple millimeters and have intense bright ruby red color!!! The crystals are sharp and lustrous!!! There are significant portions of cinnabar crystals that are coated by a thin layer of opal as well!!! There are also several areas of blackish colored metacinnabar present among the cinnabar crystals!!! On the reverse one can see that there are portions of metallic-looking areas of opal matrix - the opal actually hosts finely dispersed inclusions of native mercury!!! The specimen also retains an old orange colored catalogue number on the reverse!!! The pictures don't even come close to capturing this fantastic old timer from this seldom referenced California locale!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
