Description/Interesting Notes:
An increidble example of sphalerite var. cleiophane with calcite from Franklin!!! This specimen hosts a broad vug lined with dolomite crystals and
loaded with lustrous, pristmatic crystals
of calcite and a lone, textbook perfect crystal of sphalerite var. cleiophane!!! The calcite crystals are sharp, lustrous, and have marked clarity!!!
The sphalerite crystal exhibits a modified, triangular form that is sharp and complete all around!!! The cleiophane crystal is gemmy and has a
faint, slightly greenish tint!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope there is a small area that hosts some
tiny, scattered crystals of
what was thought to be rutile (noted on the Fred Parker label) - these crystals are very small, hair-like splinters that have a lively golden color!!!
This is a very impressive specimen in person and under UV the calcite crystals fluoresce a lively red color (the crystals show a fiber-optic like magnification of
fluorescence at the tips!) and the cleiophane crystal fluoresces a lively yellow!!!
This specimen is from the personal collection of Bob Jenkins and retains his original
personal collection label in addition to an old label from noted East Coast collector Fred Parker as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MAY 19th!!!
