Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent and unique old time native copper from Michigan!!! This specimen is from the collection of famed
copper magnate Thomas F. Cole (1862-1939) and retains an old label (with Cole collection notation) from the California
Institute of Technology Collection!!! This unique and aesthetic native copper specimen consists of
numerous, isolated crystals scattered across its broad face!!! This is very unusual since most
native copper specimens from the region tend to be more-or-less intergrown groups of
contiguous crystals!!! I must note that these crystals are much sharper than they appear in the pics!!! The isolated
crystals range in complexity from sharp single crystals to "balls" of interpenetrant crystals that show numerous sharp, square-shaped
faces surrounded by more complex faces!!! Upon close inspection one can see that the native copper is quite
well crystallized throughout!!! The crystals have a stunning patina that ranges from brassy-golden to a lively red!!! The matrix is
covered with tiny, gemmy quartz points (many of which have copper inclusions upon close study with a loupe or scope)and there are
some unusual, unidentified deep blue microcrystals scattered about as well!!!
This specimen is simply INCREDIBLE in person - you simply do not see native copper specimens with such presentation!!!
Thomas F. Cole had unprecedented access and means to acquire the finest native copper specimens Michigan produced and it
is easy to see how this unique specimen caught his eye!!! This specimen is in
fantastic condition all around and displays stunningly in person!!! Simply an amazing, and historic, old time
native copper specimen!!! Don't miss out on this valuable beauty (its previous price was well into the four digits)!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
