Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely incredible, old time example of native copper after cuprite from this classic Arizona locale!!! This specimen
consists of a large, single crystal of native copper and selenite after cuprite aesthetically perched on a small amount of matrix!!!
The native copper is well crystallized itself and has an attractive patina with metallic luster!!!
The native copper retains well-defined octahedral form and the selenite has filled in much of the voids between the
native copper crystals!!!
One can see the underlying copper crystals within the selenite and there is some red cuprite staining as well!!!
The crystal measures an impressive 1.4cm!!! This amazing specimen is from the collection
of Harold D. Levey and was part of a small group of similar specimens - however this one was by far the best and was the only native copper AND
selenite pseudomorph!!! I was recently told by a well known Arizona collector that these specimens are very rare and that
this was one of finest examples of this material he had seen - apparently there were just a couple of these specimens recovered
were encountered just before finding some of the finest cuprite specimens back in the 1950's!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY MAY 24th!!!
