Description/Interesting Notes:
An incredible, old time example of cordierite from Connecticut!!! This rare New England beauty hosts a rich showing of
crystalline cordierite on a matrix of sillimanite, quartz and plagioclase!!! One rarely sees cordierite
with such fine crystals - and with such handsome color and marked clarity!!! This is a KILLER example
of the species from this old time locality!!! This specimen hosts a prominent, sharply defined, TERMINATED crystal in
addition to numerous other well defined crystals that measure up to well over 3cm!!! The crystals have sharp, lustrous
faces and marked clarity that ranges from translucent to gemmy!!! The cordierite has a handsome, characteristic
cornflower blue with cores of deep, dark indigo blue!!! Interestingly, there are a few areas that show thin outer
zones of greenish coloration!!! The matrix hosts a significant showing of lustrous whitish sillimanite that has an
almost silky sheen!!! Upon close inspection, one can see the fine, fibrous nature of the sillimanite in areas as well!!!
Additionally, there are what appear to be two tiny zircon crystals present in addition as well!!! Rare, OLD time material!!! Simply
an incredible example of the species for the locality!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JUNE 28th!!!
