Covellite with Chalcanthite Butte, Butte District, Silver Bow Co., Montana 10.9cm x 9.8cm x 3.8cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A unique example of covellite from Butte!!! This specimen consists of a large mass of brilliant, iridescent metallic covellite crystals in association with an intensely colored coating of chalcanthite!!! The covellite exhibits gorgeous, intense magenta and purple iridescent metallic luster and there are several significant, broad crystal faces present all around the specimen!!! The chalcanthite coating is quite showy and there are some other, unidentified species in association!!! The coating is particularly dense and fine - this is naturally occuring material!!! In addition to the covellite, there are areas where the covellite is pseudomorphed to chalcocite and there are also significant areas of pyrite present as well!!! A very showy and unique old time specimen from this classic locale!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
