Covellite Summitville, Summitville District, Rio Grande Co., Colorado 6.82cm x 5.1cm x 4cm Ex. Thomas J. Campbell

Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic example of covellite from Colorado!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of finely bladed covellite crystals on matrix!!! The juxtaposed crystals have handsome purple-magenta iridescent metallic luster and there is one group of crystals that are prominently perched on the matrix and almost resemble a rosette!!! This specimen is quite showy in person!!! Upon close inspection one can see a number of well-formed hexagonal blades that exhibit characteristic form for the species!!! Classic material!!! This specimen came from the collection of Thomas J. Campbell, Co-author of the "Encyclopedia of Minerals"!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
