Covellite with Quartz

Leonard Mine, Berkeley Pit, Butte, Butte District, Silver Bow Co., Montana

5.14cm x 3.54cm x 1.35cm

Description/Interesting Notes:

A superb example of covellite from Butte!!! This specimen consists of a showy plate of iridescent metallic blue crystals of covellite in association with a lone quartz crystal!!! The covellite crystals show characteristic hexagonal form and exhibit a slight alteration to chalcocite along their edges which serves to almost highlight their outlines in person!!! The crystals have a handsome iridescent blue metallic color and display magnificently in person!!! The single quartz point is stout and razor-sharp with gem clarity and glassy luster!!! Simply an outstanding old time Butte covellite!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY AUGUST 23rd!!!
