Cryolite with Siderite & Sphalerite Ivittuut (Ivigtut), Arsuk Firth, Arsuk, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland 5.55cm x 3.62cm x 2.05cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A magnificent, old time example of cryolite from Greenland!!! Examples of crystalline cryolite are rare and highly sought after!!! This specimen consists of a portion of massive cryolite that hosts a significant showing of crystalline cryolite in association with siderite and sphalerite!!! One side of the specimen hosts a single crystal of siderite, a single crystal of darkly colored sphalerite, and a shallow vug filled with sharp, cubic crystals of cryolite!!! The cubic crystal faces are razor-sharp and brilliantly lustrous!!! The opposite side hosts a bulbous cluster of sharp cubic crystals of cryolite that has been selectively coated by submillimeter crytals of cryolite!!! Upon close inspection, one can see that the underlying cryolite crystals are quite gemmy!!! In person one can see that this specimen has impressive areas of fine, undamaged crysallization - however it is quite difficult to capture them in the photos!!!
