Cuprite Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) 3.13cm x 2.75cm x 1.8cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A fantastic example of cuprite from the Congo!!! This specimen consists of a large single crystal of cuprite with numerous smaller crystals in association!!! The crystals exhibit octahedral form with highly complex modifications!!! The crystals are lustrous and - most notably - have significant deep red color and clarity!!! When backlit one can see that this specimen has marked gemminess all the way through!!! What might appear to be damage in the pictures is actually just negative-cavities from now absent botryoidal chrysocolla!!! This specimen is way better than the pics show!!! Save for one area on the reverse this specimen is complete and displays magnificently!!! This specimen is quite striking in person!!! Old material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
