Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic example of cuprite with native silver from Russia!!! This specimen consists
of a showy cluster of razor-sharp, octahedral cuprite crystals that hosts a particularly
rich showing of tin-white native silver!!! The cuprite crystals have very sharp
faces and brilliant glasy luster!!! The cuprite crystals exhibit highly complex and modified
octahedral forms!!! While most of the cuprite specimens from this locality tend to be near black in color,
this specimen shows flashes of deep red within!!! The specimen shows sharp and significant cuprite crystals on every side with
no associated matrix!!! There is a particularly rich showing of native silver scattered among the
highly lustrous cuprite crystals!!! The native silver is present as almost spongiform material,
which is likely pseudomorphic after one of the rare silver-iodide species found at this locale - likely the
rare silver copper iodide miersite!!! In fact, upon close inspection with a loupe or scope one can find some minute crystals
of translucent yellow miersite as well!!! Despite some minor damage, this specimen displays gorgeously in person and is loaded
with handsomely contrasting native silver!!! Simply a fantastic example of this uncommon pairing from this exciting locality (no doubt a
future classic!)!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY OCTOBER 11th!!!
