A rare, old time example of malachite and chrysocolla from this seldom referenced ancient locality - King Solomon Mine in Israel!!!
This is a TRUE example of what is sometimes called "Eilat Stone" from Israel!!! This specimen consists of a rich showing of lively
green malachite in association with olive green chrysocolla as well as a small amount of azurite and other unidentified species!!! Upon
close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can see areas of compressed acicular crystals and areas where it
appears where this material appears to have been replaced by malachite!!! This material is very rigid and dense!!! This unusual material hosts an impressive
variety of intergrown species and there is much more going on than can be appreciated from the pics alone - it is simply
incredible upon close inspection as well!!! This is an OLD
specimen acquired by Peppis during one of several collecting trips to the region!!! True, old time examples this material are
virtually nonexistent on the market!!! Rare and incredible material!!! The pics don't even come close to doing it justice!!!
Albert Peppis was born July 5th, 1899 and died July 12th, 1989 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where his collection had layed
dormant for nearly 20 years until our acquisition of the collection!!! Albert was an avid mineral collector and prolific
field collector throughout the northeastern United States!!! Peppis collected most prolifically between the late 1920's
throughout the 1960's although he coninued to acquire specimens in his later years as well!!! Albert was both a member
of the Franklin Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society and the New York City Mineralogical Society!!! Peppis was a close friend
of Alvin and Raymond Schortmann and collected extensively with them at the Ruggles Mine in New Hampshire during the trips
that began their mineral dealing careers!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
