A magnificent, old time example of elbaite tourmaline from the type locale - Elba Island in Italy!!! This specimen
hosts a trio of multi-color tourmaline crystals in association with quartz crystals, microcline, and
additional areas of darkly colored elbaite tourmaline!!! These classic, old time
examples of elbaite tourmaline from Elba are highly sought after and rarely seen on today's market!!! This
is a particularly fine specimen - hosting three complete crystals that measure to over 1.1cm!!! These
crystals have terrific color for the locality too, consisting of a base of dark brownish - olive green followed
by a zone of greenish, a zone of near colorless, and a thick zone of pinkish purple at the termination!!! The
terminations have very shallow pyramidal faces with a micro-thin area of chatoyance - creating a slightly velveteen appearance in person!!!
This specimen is WAY better than the pics show!!! Simply a magnificent example of this famed historic material!!!
Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired
the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting
minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this specimen was
originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE COMING SOON!!!
***PLEASE NOTE: We are located in coastal New Jersey and our area has been decimated by HURRICANE SANDY. While Mandy and I are safe and did not suffer any damage, the local area is in very bad shape. The National Guard is here and there has been an overwhelming influx of help and support from all over. We have been lucky enough to have our power restored but there is a critical lack of resources throughout the area. As a result, we may experience some shipping delays and encounter other logistical issues. We thank you most sincerely for your kind wishes and patience during this time. We will continue to offer specimens from the Nikischer collection, as well as other recent acquisitions, during this time however - so don't miss out!!!
