Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of native gold & silver from this famed historic locality!!! This specimen consists of a quartz & sphalerite-pyrite
matrix that hosts several tiny crystals of pyrargyrite, acanthite, and possibly other silver-bearing species in addition to
a tiny lone native silver wire and several scattered tiny areas of native gold var. electrum!!! The pyrargyrite is near black in color and
there is a single partial crystal perched amont the quartz crystals!!! There are also some smaller crystals located in the same
area!!! There
is also a lone, tiny crystal of possible acanthite that hosts a single tiny wire of native silver growing out of it as well!!!
The opposite side of the specimen hosts a broad face comprised mainly of aggregate crystals of sphalerite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite!!! Among
these sulfides are some scattered, tiny submillimeter masses of native gold var. electrum!!! There
are also some other unidentified species(possibly some other silver bearing species) present as well!!! Some of the electrum is
difficult to discern among the other species, as some of it has a varied patina - however there are certainly some that are unmistakable as well!!!
This old time specimen is best appreciated with a loupe or scope, as most of the interesting areas are less than a few millimeters in size!!!
This specimen is actually from a suite of similar specimens from the Justice Mine that we sold some time ago!!! The
other specimens had similar enamel labels (you can see that this one's lettering has worn off, but the enamel area is still there)!!!
Rare old time material!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
