Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare example of fluorite from Franklin!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of intensely colored reddish fluorite on a matrix of calcite in association with
a few scattered crystals of pale yellowish sphalerite!!! The color red is perhaps one of the rarest colors seen in fluorite!!! The fluorite is gemmy and the color is
quite striking in person!!! The bottom layer of fluorite is quite dark in color - bordering on purplish red!!! The calcite is quite fluorescent and, although the fluorite does not fluoresce, it
does exhibit the unusual property of thermoluminescence (glows when heated!)!!! We removed a small fragment of fluorite and heated it - after it got hot enough it began to glow green!!!
Simply a fantastic example of fluorite from Franklin!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
