Freibergite with Rhodochrosite, Quartz, & Native Silver Sweet Home Mine, Mount Bross, Alma District, Park Co., Colorado 6cm x 2.87cm x 2.06cm

Description/Interesting Notes: An absolutely incredible example of freibergite with rhodochrosite from this famous locality!!! This specimen consists of a well-formed group of freibergite crystals that features a paricularly large crystal in the center!!! The freibergite crystals are accented by rhombs of rhodochrosite and quartz points as well as numerous highly iridescent crystals of bornite on its surface!!! In addition to the bornites however, this specimen hosts a very significant showing of native silver present as dense patches of micro-wires of native silver on the faces of the freibergite crystals (you can see this most notably on one broad face of the main crystal)!!! The reverse of the specimen shows a skeletal-like network of vugs and cavities that exhibit a remarkable iridescence in person - the pics don't even come close to showing the intense and pronounced rainbow of colors!!! Upon close inspection with a loupe or scope, one can see that the freibergite crystals are heavily impregnated with micro-wires and micro-crystals of native silver!!! While this would be a fantastic specimen if it were simply a tetrahedrite - however this is a rare and remarkable example of the much rarer silver analogue, freibergite!!! The dense showing of microcrystalline native silver provides a fantastic underscore to the presence of this exciting species as well!!! This is an incredible example for the species from any locality - let alone this famous classic locality!!! This specimen retains an antique label from a Leadville area mineral dealer as well!!!
