Friedelite
1180 Stope, 700' level, Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey
6.85cm x 4.63cm x 4.1cm
Ex. Tony Nikischer Collection #1105
Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific example of rare crystalline friedelite from Sterling Hill!!! Friedelite is often seen as massive material, with
actual crystals being quite scarce by comparison!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of crystalline friedelite scattered throughout the
attractive light pink matrix!!! The friedelite has lively orange color and shows significant crystallization!!! The
crystals are present as complex, triangular-looking "sawtooth" crystals!!! The matrix consists of massive pink material that
shows marked cleavage and luster throughout (it is not calcite and shows significant pink color)!!! There are grains of black franklinite as well as some small, scattered grains of
willemite (the only fluorescent material present)!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection
of Tony Nikischer and retains its original personal collection label!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection
of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
