Description/Interesting Notes:
A showy and aesthetic old time example of galena from this classic locality!!! This specimen consists of a characteristic chert matrix that
hosts numerous complex crystals of galena in association with yellow greenockite as well!!! Let me start off by saying that when we
first acquired this specimen I was SURE that it had to be repaired or even created!!! However, upon careful microscopic scrutiny, exposure to solvents, and
UV lighting inspection I can say that, without a doubt, this specimen is completely natural and unrepaired!!! The galena crystals exhibit a curious multihued
white and black patina and a slighly rounded appearance!!! There is a significant amount of yellow greenockite present around some of the galena crystals and on the
reverse of the specimen as well!!! Upon close examination with a scope, one can even see minute submillimeter
crystals of greenockite!!! This specimen is very showy and aesthetic in person - the crystals are all undamaged and prominent!!!
The pictures just don't capture how impressive this classic old timer is in person!!! Originally there was a little paper sign taped to the specimen that
said "Want to play jacks?" which was an obvious allusion to the complex octahedral crystals' similarity to toy jacks layed out on a surface!!! Simply a
gorgeous Tri-State classic!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY DECEMBER 23rd!!!
