A superb, classic Knappenwand epidote. This specimen consists of a beautiful cluster of juxtaposed epidote crystals. The epidote has super-glassy luster, sharp crystallization and terminations, great clarity, and wonderful olive green color. There are a few small areas along some edges where the crystal's internal structure changes from gemmy to slightly fibrous, which gives certain edges a beautiful light green highlight. This specimen is absolutely pristine with no damage whatsoever. There is also no point of attachment at all. Although there are no close up pictures of them, there are three small albite crystals and several tufts of byssolite associated with the epidote. The byssolite is both included in the albite and tucked in a few nooks and crannies on the epidote. The association of the byssolite and albite is typical of Knappenwand. Fine specimens like this (or ANY specimens for that matter!) from Austria are very difficult to find indeed! With their superior aesthetics it is easy to see what makes this classic material so highly sought after!
