Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent example of chalcocite from Tsumeb!!! This specimen hosts a cluster of sharp, undamaged chalcocite crystals prominently perched atop ore
matrix!!! Chalcocite crystals are rare from Tsumeb and fine examples such as these are very scarce indeed!!! The largest crystal face measures
nearly 1cm!!! This specimen came from the Innes collection and, curiously, we had obtained a nearly identical specimen from Bill Pinch (that he
also had acquired from Innes) that
labelled the chalcocite crystals as "unknown" (because they were small and unusually fine they gave the impression of something more unusual)
and noted that the ore matrix contained gallite and germanite!!! This current specimen has a polished bottom and appears to have some
characteristic reddish-purplish hued veins that appear similar to the known gallite & germanite ore specimen (sold on Jan 6th, ebay #290518258182)!!!
We have not had this specimen analyzed, but it would certainly be a worthwhile endevour!!! Regardless of the possible rare germanite and gallite, this is a
magnificent example of chalcocite indeed!!! In addition, there is a significant amount of an unknown tan colored mineral present scattered about the specimen!!!
There are also numerous smaller, fine chalcocite crystals present among the tiny vugs as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in
person to be fully appreciated!!! Specimen retains an old Innes label as well!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY FEBRUARY 10th!!!
